Eligibility

Venturers

The criteria listed below is to ensure the Venturers are better prepared for their Venture experience, emotionally, mentally and physically. Activities are Unit based and at times, individual participation.

Venturers should be able to work effectively in a Unit without Leader supervision.

New Zealand Venturers may attend the Venture if they:

  • Are over the age of 14, and an invested member of a Venturer Unit as at the opening day of the Venture. They must not have had their 19th birthday prior to 9th January 2023;

  • Youth members who have turned 18 prior to December 29th 2022 will need to have a clear police check prior to 30th November 2022;

  • Meet public health requirements as stipulated by the event:

  • Have the approval of their parents or guardians and Venturer Leader; and

  • Pay the appropriate fee.

Activities at the Venture are set at a level that would suit youth aged between 14 years and 18 years, as a matter of policy young people should not be moved up to Venturers ahead of their normal transition so they can attend the Venture and likewise older Venturers should not be held back from Rovers unless exceptional conditions apply.

Venturers from other National Scout Organisations (NSOs) may attend the Venture if they:

  • Are over the age of 14, and an invested member of a Venturer Unit (or equivalent) as at the opening day of the Venture. They must not have had their 19th birthday prior to 9th January 2023;

  • Youth participants who have turned 18 prior to December 29th 2022 will need to have a clear police check completed prior to 30th November 2022;

  • Have the approval of their parents or guardians and their own NSO to attend;

  • Meet public health requirements as stipulated by the event; and

  • Pay the appropriate fee.

Members of Kindred Organisations (e.g. Rangers, St Johns Youth) may attend the Venture if they meet the following criteria:

  • An enrolled member of their organisation and fit within the Venturer Section membership criteria as at the opening day of the Venture;

  • Youth participants who have turned 18 prior to December 29th 2022 will need to have a clear police check completed prior to 30th November 2022;

  • Have the approval of their parents or guardians, and kindred organisation to attend;

  • Meet public health requirements as stipulated by the event; and

  • Pay the appropriate fee.

Leaders

Adults may attend the Venture if they meet the following criteria:

Leaders with Units must:

  • Meet the age requirements to be a Venturer Leader - 23 years of age, unless otherwise agreed by the Venture Director.

  • Hold a current adult leader warrant and current Police check as at the opening date of Venture (preferably in the Venturer section) and ideally, hold a current first aid certificate;

  • Have a reasonable fitness level suitable for the activities they will be undertaking;
  • Have appropriate approvals (e.g. Group Leader/Rover Crew or Zone Leader);

  • Meet public health requirements as stipulated by the event; and

  • Pay the appropriate fee.

Please note, All Unit Leaders and Staff attending over the age of 18 are required to hold a current and clean Police Check in order to comply with New Zealand’s Child Safety legislation.

Staff

Venture Staff must:

  • Have attained 20 years of age at the opening day of the Venture (unless agreed by the Venture Director);
    Hold a current Adult Leader Warrant or Associate Certificate which includes a current police check, as at the opening date of the Venture; or

  • Be an invested and financial member of a Rover Crew with a current police check; or

  • Be a lay person who has agreed to abide by the Duty of Care and been subject to a police check;

  • Have appropriate approvals (e.g. Group Leader/Rover Crew or Zone Leader);

  • Meet public health requirements as stipulated by the event; and

  • Pay the appropriate fee.

Adult Leaders from other National Scout Organisations (NSOs) may attend if they:

  • Meet the criteria established for New Zealand Unit Leaders and/or staff;

  • Have the approval of their own NSO to attend; and

  • Pay the appropriate fee.

Please note, All Unit Leaders and Staff attending over the age of 18 are required to hold a current and clean Police Check in order to comply with New Zealand’s Child Safety legislation.
